A. Well, Fantasy had always been one of my favourite my genres. My first book was romance fiction but fantasy… to write about characters, places created out of the author’s imagination and make them real, that’s what I want to do with my writing. And then well… everyone has their choices but with fantasy one can read about places unknown, lands unseen; it enhances ones imagination and in the busy world of today, if a piece of writing can take one’s mind off the worries, I believe it’s fantasy.
2. Can you tell us something about Vampire of the Night: The curse of Sandman?
A. The book generally deals with Vampire/supernatural fiction and is intended for Young Adult-Adult audiences. I could decently place it under Fantasy-romance genre. It’s basically a vampire-human romance story which deals with the usual and the not-so-usual such as certain issues, the technicalities of a mortal-immortal love, a world unknown, enemies unheard of and lots of action and adventure.
In certain aspects it’s like many other urban Vampire fictions that we come across these days. But in certain others it’s completely new, untold or unheard of. Sandman for instance, is an antagonist that vampires haven’t dealt with before. What’s his purpose, Why is he here, Where does he come from it’s all this and more, makes the story exciting.
3. That reminds me, why Sandman? What’s Sandman got to do with Vampires?
A. I wanted to bring in some twist to the normal vampire stories so instead of bringing in the usual vampire enemies such as werewolves, zombies etc. I thought of going for some other creatures of fantasy, something untested, different, yet still related to the creatures of night. So I thought, why not Sandman, he is related to sleep, to dreams and hence to night, like the Vampires and he has his own abilities that I have added in, which makes him the perfect enemy for Vampires.
4. Can you tell us something about the main characters of the story?
A. The main protagonists of the story are “Maximillian Vladimir” and “Alessandra Helsing”.
Maximillian Vladimir: or ‘Max Vlad’ as he is often known as, is a Vampire Lord of the largest Vampire clan the “Vladimir clan” and from the name, he comes from the direct lineage of Vlad Dracula. He is cold, crude and harsh as vampire Lord, and shows no mercy. But when it comes to love, there is a side of him unseen or unheard of by any of his clan. He is a warrior in every sense and excellent at it which is revealed in his many encounters with Sandman. And that’s all I can say…Umm… mostly he’s… unpredictable.
Alessandra Helsing: is a banished vampire huntress and a college student. She is fun loving, adventurous, and brave through and through. Her family the Helsings – a very reputed family of hunters - have banished her but she chooses to live the life of a huntress on her own. In addition to that she has certain ambitions which she wants to fulfil, hence the college and the normal human life come in. The Curse of Sandman, an unknown adventure that lies ahead, is where her true grit will be put to test.
Sandman: Well he’s the main antagonist of the story, resides in the world of Dreams. He is a feeless, soulless, entity who has no remorse and no pain. As his name suggests, he is of sand and to sand. And being of sand makes him invincible, which is a very good rival for Max who is immortal. So how are the both of them going end up. Is immortal not so immortal or invincible not so invincible. All this would be found out in the story. 186
5. What do you aim with your writing?
A. For me, I want it to be a good piece of entertainment to the readers, a book that friends can talk about in their circles over a cup of coffee or a gathering, and something which readers of various age groups would enjoy.
6. What about the future of Vampire of the Night?
A. Well… The future… it’s still too early to decide but I can safely say. ‘Vampire of the Night’ is going to be a series and one unlike any other. It’s going to be adventure-filled, action-packed book, infused with Romance and great ordeals and how two people of different worlds come together to solve those ordeals.
